Copyright warning before Main Menu

June 30, 2009 9:33 AM

What’s up everybody welcome to FinalCutStudio.info and today I’m gonna be showing you how to do a copyright warning on the beginning of your DVD that shows before the menu is displayed. So let’s get started!

I got a couple files here on my Desktop: the copyright warning video and then an audio and video track that I’m gonna have for my DVD movie. So inside of a DVD Studio Pro project I’m gonna press Command-1 to show the asset window and then I’ll select these files on my Desktop, drag them into the asset window to import them into my project. So I got my assets all in my DVD Studio project.

I’m gonna go to the Graphical Tab here. By default there’s menu and a track. So what I want to do is add another track to have for my copyright warning that plays before the menu is displayed. So from the project menu I’ll add to project a track and from the inspector here we’ll just name it “warning”. So for this warning track I’m gonna drag the warning video from my asset and place it into the track.

If you look here there’s a little icon on the menu and that tells me that it’s the first play of the DVD. So that when somebody puts the DVD into the player the first thing that plays is the menu. So what I want to do is with the DVD selected, and I know it’s selected by pressing on a grey area here. If I click in the grey area it will select the DVD in the inspector, and I change the first play from the menu to the warning track. So we’ll do that and now that icon is on this warning track. And then I’ll select the warning track and for the end jump of it I want it to go to the menu. Now a little arrow in the graphical tab tells me that after this warning track plays, then it will go to the menu.

Another thing with this warning track selected is I’m gonna disable the remote control functions. So that way a user could’t skip past the track or press the menu button on their remote tod skip past seeing the copyright warning on their DVD. So we got that all setup.

Then I’ll go the menu here, double click on it, and then I’ll create a button. And then for the target of the button I’ll have it go to the DVD track. Ok, so now we’ll go back to the graphical tab and I’ll get my video and place it into the DVD track. And then we’ll select the DVD track and for the end jump we’ll have it go back to the menu. So that way when the DVD is done playing then it will go back to the main menu where the play button is.

That’s basic DVD authoring you know, and uh, really just wanted to focus on settin’ up the copyright warning as the first play for the DVD and then disabling the r-r-remote control features and having the end jump of the copyright warning go to the main menu. So, now you have a basic understanding of how to author a DVD with a copyright warning.

Kind of like Clockwork Orange, one of my favorite movies. You know, in that scene where they have Alex strapped down and his eyes are forced open and he has to see those videos and then later on it drives him to suicide. You know, now we can do that with a DVD! So, hope you enjoyed this tutorial and thanks for watching!
