    Heya guys!

I figure I’d start a discussion topic about the Final Cut Pro X 10.1 Apple Pro Certification Exam in case anyone has any questions about it.

The exam has 75 questions that are multiple choice and “pin the tail on the donkey” type questions. You have 95 minutes to complete the exam and you must score 81% or better in order to pass. It costs $75 to take the exam and you can take the exam at any Apple Authorized Training Center for pro apps. There’s a list of AATCs here and you can call the AATC nearest you and schedule a time to go into their location and take the certification exam. Please note that all AATCs offer all Mac OS X and Pro Apps exams, even if they don’t offer the corresponding course.

The exam is timed and you have to use a special secure browser application to take the exam. The browser automatically opens in full screen and there’s a special keyboard combination to quit the app so that you can’t “hide” the exam and look on your computer for the answer. The exam is closed-book – meaning you can’t reference any resources to help you answer the questions. Apple allows students to use scratch paper during the exam if they want, but any scratch paper must be retrieved after the exam has concluded.

Once you’ve passed the exam then you will be listed as an Apple Certified Pro on the Apple Certified Professionals Registry.

If you fail the exam then you can re-take the exam after one week has passed.

There’s a list of exam preparation guides on Apple’s website and you can also take the FCPX quiz on our website to prepare yourself for the Apple Pro Certification Exam.

If anybody has any other questions about the exam I’d be happy to help.

The FCPX Quiz on FinalCutProX.net is only a practice exam to give you an idea of the type of questions that are asked on the Apple Certification Exam.

Besides the list of exam preparation guides that were linked in the original post you can also review lesson review questions at the end of each chapter in the Apple Pro Training Series book by Brendan Boykin

Jasper, this is great information. I always thought I had to go through the workshop. That was my mistake. It wasn’t something anyone told me. I just assumed it. In my years working in TV, we have used previous versions of Final Cut, and I wanted to get certified back then as well. Just never looked into it. Really appreciate you taking the time to enlighten all of us. I am in Colorado so I will look for the nearest Apple Certified Training Center once I am done reading the book.

PS: Do you have have any FCP10.1.1 tutorials that you sell on DVD. I know you have some on Youtube which by the way are superbly done. I am looking to go further into Final Cut 10.1, beyond the basics.

Great chatting with you earlier online. I am looking forward to watching the archived version of Larry Jordan’s live FC10.1 session he is doing today.

      Heya Greg,

Thanks for your reply! Yeah anyone can go to an AATC and take a pro exam without having to take the class. Find out where your nearest AATC is and go in and take the exam. Make sure to let me know when you become an Apple Certified Pro!

I have a few videos on YouTube and on this website. I am releasing additional FCPX 10.1.1 training videos available via purchase which includes 10.0.3 training and additional 10.1.1 training videos when they become available. The purchase also includes the FCPX 10.1 quiz (available now) and the quiz report cards.

I also plan on hosting a live Q&A every month that will be available to customers that have purchased the FCPX Training on this website.

Hey Jasper, I am really psyched about getting the CERT. There is a training center in a town south of Boulder so I don’t have too far to go. We live on a cliff 14 miles north of Boulder.

Sounds like a great training video. Do you have a synopsis page that shows what all is covered in the 15 hours of video? One thing I am looking for is advanced training that goes beyond the basics. Also does it help to still look at the 10.03 video sessions since 10.1 is very different?

I still have to finish the book. I’ll let you know when I get certified.

PS: Could you post on your page the link to the archived session when Larry Jordan is finished with his streaming session. I noticed the live stream is still going. Thank you Jasper!

    Glad we have connected.

      Heya Greg,

I don’t have a complete synopsis for the videos yet. I’m kind of creating them as I go. I had to take a break earlier this year because of an illness but I am currently in relapse and I’ve been working hard the past few months developing the new version of this website that has just launched.

This website is much more scalable now in terms of adding restricted content for verified paid users. In the previous version of this website there was a lot of coding involved every time a new video restricted was released. Add that on top of producing the videos and it’s a lot of time and effort involved. Those setbacks along with my illness prevented me from releasing more training videos earlier this year. Now that I am well I was able to develop a more robust code that makes it much easier for me to click a button and restrict the content of a page for a person that has purchased an item in the store, such as the FCPX Training. I still have a little bit of coding to do and then I’ll start making more videos and putting them into the catalog. At this time I am hoping that FCPX 10.1.2 is released so that any new videos I make will cover the latest version. I have a feeling that FCPX 10.1.2 will be released soon. The new videos I release will cover everything from the basics up to more advanced techniques, including multicam editing.

It helps to watch the older videos that cover 10.0.3, even to get up to speed on 10.1. Some of the main differences between 10.1 and older versions is how media is managed. The current videos I have that cover 10.1 pretty much cover everything that’s new in 10.1 and the older videos pretty much cover the rest of what you can do.

I’ll most likely post an archive of Larry Jordan’s training video on the same page that the live video is on right now. I’ll just update the page with an archive of his video (if Larry Jordan makes an archive of his video available for me to post).

I’m glad we connected too, Greg. I hope to see you post some other topics in the forum and perhaps upload an avatar. Make sure to come back and let me know when you become certified. See you soon and good luck on your exam!

Hey Jasper, I wish you nothing but the best in your recovery. Your health comes first always.

That is good to know that I can still learn from 10.03 outside of the changes to media management in 10.1. Very cool! So the video training which is 4 plus hours is in addition to the 10.03 training? I think this sounds like a great deal. Do you go more in depth with the basics than your youtube video training? I really like your style and your approach with your training. Great teaching man!

I really like the idea of being involved in your 10.1 Q/A. I would definitely take part in that. And I will definitely get involved posting other topics. This is a great way to learn, and it can help others as well.

Jasper I have been in the media over 30 years, and I really like to share stuff with my followers. I will be happy to pass the word on about you and Finalcut.net. The personal attention you have given me today has been outstanding. You’re a cool dude!

Hopefully I’ll blow the test away when I take it. 🙂

Again, I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Hi Jasper, I was confused by the FCP training download. When the download was finished, all I received was lesson 1, TRT: 6:39. Not sure what happened. I went through the correct process and used the coupon. Was there something I missed.

Thank you for any help you can give me on this.

    All the best,
    Greg

      Heya Greg,

I just updated the server with additional download files. Try looking at your order history again. More files should be there for you now.

Thanks Jasper. I see there are 38 lessons from 10.03. So besides media management, I can still learn from these lessons? Will they help me for my 10.1 Training Cert test?

Really appreciate you taking the time to get back with me on this.

Hope you have had a great day!

    Greg

Hey Jasper, one last thing. I just clicked on the FCPX Quiz link in your post and it says I must first purchase the Training. I didn’t see this in my order history. Where else can I access the questions?

    Thank you so much.

    All the best,
    Greg

      Heya Greg,

I’m not sure what happened, but for some reason you had two orders for the FCPX Training in our system. One was a completed order and one was a pending order. The pending order must of created a conflict with the system when verifying your purchase, which resulted in denying you access to the FCPX Quiz. I deleted the pending order so you should be able to access the full FCPX Quiz now.

I’m working on adding the FCPX Quiz “Report Cards”. Report cards should start appearing on the quiz page once I have completed their development.

You are awesome Jasper! Thank you! Not sure how two orders appeared unless it was because I went back in to find my order history. That may have been my fault although I wasn’t trying to re-order since I had already completed the process.

I’ll try again and see if it lets me view the quiz questions.

Thanks again, and I’m sorry this created extra work for you.

    All the best,
    Greg

Hey Jasper, I really apologize for having to ask this of you again, but when I click on the link for the quiz, it still says I first need to buy the tutorials. I definitely did not go back to the order page so it shouldn’t say that there are any orders pending. I do have all the lesson plans for me to download, but there is nowhere in my account to download the quiz so I just clicked on the link in your last post.

    Thanks for your help!

    All the best,
    Greg

      Heya Greg,

Our records show you have two accounts registered in our system. Make sure you’re logged in to the account that has the FCPX Training purchased. You can also take the limited quiz for free from the link provided.

Hi Jasper, that is really strange. I typically just log in by clicking on the Facebook icon. So I am not sure what other login to use. When I purchased the package, I did use the coupon you gave me, and it asked me to fill out a background page. I did choose a user name, but it didn’t ask me for a password.

If I hit sign out, the only way I know to get back in is to go back through the Facebook icon.

It’s not that big of a deal, and I don’t want to put you through anymore trouble so if I can’t get to the 50 questions, that’s cool.

    All the best,
    Greg

      Heya Greg,

Yeah I think what happened is that when you went through the checkout process you actually created a new account on the checkout page. There’s an area on the checkout page to enter a username, which will create a new account (see screenshot below). A password is automatically generated for you when you enter a username on the checkout page and that generated password is supposed to be emailed to you. Perhaps it was sent to your spam folder?

I’m thinking you were able to access downloads from the order history because you were still logged in to the session for the new account you created during your order. Then you closed your browser or otherwise killed the session and later on you logged in with Facebook to post on the forum and lost your session that had your order stored on it so you couldn’t access the quiz. I went through the system and attributed your order to your Facebook account and deleted the other erroneous account that was inadvertently created so you should be able to access the FCPX Quiz from your Facebook account now by visiting the FCPX Quiz page.

Hi Jasper, thanks for fixing this. I am now able to get into my account by going in the same way I have been doing it which is by clicking on the Facebook icon. I never did receive a password in my email. I checked the spam folder. It’s OK though because I can now access my account page. I am not ready to take the test, but I did click on the quiz to see if I could access it, and I could. Still a ways to go before I finish the book.

I am also heavily into graphics and animation so I am going to try for my Motion 5 certification once I complete FCP 10.1. I haven’t bought Motion yet, but I will soon. I definitely want to learn Motion 5.

Man, I really appreciate all of your help. You have gone the extra yard. That’s really cool. I am going to post some questions soon in your Forum. Hopefully we can get some action going. I’ll do my best to help you out.

PS: If you are into Weather, be sure and LIKE Weather Talk, one of my weather pages. I talk about the whole country. I always like to introduce “special folks” once they LIKE my page.
