    Heya, Brad,

Thanks for your question. The quizzes on this site are currently for 10.1.2. The actual Apple Certification Exam is currently 10.1.2 also. The 10.2 exam and training materials will not be available from Apple until later this Summer. Please see this posted email from Apple for more info. Specifically the area for FCPX 10.2 that states the following:

Updated Final Cut Pro 10.2 materials coming this summer

The Final Cut Pro X course materials, Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X 10.1: Professional Post-Production book from Peachpit Press, and certification exams will be updated for Final Cut Pro 10.2 this summer. Stay tuned for details.

    Hope that helps!

Not for clips in the Timeline. There’s only keyboard shortcuts to adjust clip heights in the Browser. Sorry.

    Heya Dan,

I’ve also been dealing with my own little nightmare regarding GoPro footage today and I thought I’d share my discoveries. The problem I was having is I couldn’t transfer the footage from the card to my hard drive. Every time I tried to transfer the footage it would crash and say the disk was ejected improperly. Then the card would remount but the footage wouldn’t transfer from the card to my hard drive. I tried every possible option including using different USB ports, using a card reader, using the GoPro as a card reader, I even tried with different operating systems and I still was unable to transfer the footage without the disk improperly ejecting before the transfer could be completed. I tried opening the files in Quicktime from the card and then saving to the Desktop. I tried importing from FCPX. I tried drag and drop from card to my hard driving using the Finder. I tried Image Capture app.I even tried zipping the video files on the card and then tried copying the zipped files to my hard drive. Everything I tried was unsuccessful. Then I tried transcoding the footage to pro res 422 using Compressor and saving the transcoded files it to my hard drive from the SD card. That worked! I think there’s some problem with GoPro files delivering the package during copy. It seems that transcoding the files to Pro Res 422 from the GoPro’s card to your hard drive using Compressor is the best method. Hope that helps!

    Heya Nathan,

Thanks for sharing your video! I liked the part near the end where the band was playing and you dubbed in good audio for the performance. Good job on creating a scalable intro/outro segment that you can quickly customize for your videos. Can’t wait to see more videos that you create.

    Heya there!

What do you mean by crazy and choppy? Do you mean the speed transition between normal speed and the slow motion is abrupt or do you mean the portion that’s in slow motion is choppy?

If the latter then make sure the clip is rendered to display normal playback without dropped frames. If you want a smooth transition between when the speed of the video goes from normal speed to slow motion (time remapping with speed ramp) then use the range select tool, select the range you’d like to change the speed of the clip on, then press shift-n to create a retime segment for the selection. Then you can drag the handles to retime the selection and you’ll get a smooth speed transition where the speed ramp occurs. If you’re doing something like using the blade tool to “cut” the part you want to retime and then doing the retime on the “cut” clip then you’ll get an abrupt look on your video where the normal speed clip suddenly starts playing the slow motion clip where the “cut” is.

Also try enabling optical flow as the retime option. Hope that helps!

    Heya Dan,

That doesn’t sound like fun. How are you importing the clips? Directly from the GoPro? I’d recommend using a card reader to import the clips. GoPro is fickle when you try to transfer data directly from the camera.

    Hope that helps!

    Hey there Greg,

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been partying in Vegas for the past few days.

Regarding the book… yes, many Apple Certified Trainers know about the inconstancies in the book. Apple has a private discussion forum dedicated exclusively for Apple Certified Trainers and there is much chatter in those private forums about the problems with the book.

The errors in the book could cause issues on the exam. My a advice is to not follow the book word-for-word. Instead you should use it as a guide while you perform your own editing tasks and in the process you will discover what methods currently work and which recommendations have been altered since the book’s publication. The author has mentioned that supplemental material is updated and available as a download when new updates become available.

    Heya Guys!

Some new features have been added over the last couple days that have become quite popular. In the sidebar there’s now links to FCPX Keyboard Shortcuts, Motion Keyboard Shortcuts, and our File Size Bitrate Calculator.

Actually… Compressor allows you to select in and out points so that you can choose to transcode only small portions that you select so that shouldn’t be a problem. Another thing you might want to try is try reformatting the memory card in the GoPro. Also make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the GoPro. Hope that helps.

    Cheers!

Yeah you should check out the 10.0.3 videos too cause there’s tons of valuable info in those videos.

I’m stoked you finally got the app. I can’t wait for you to start editing with it! I love your new profile pic too BTW. I’m looking forward to seeing some of your drone footage and I hope to feature some of your vids on the site. You should add your YouTube channel URL to your signature so the link appears in all of your forum posts.

    Heya Nathan,

I am currently busy working on other projects so the next installment of tutorial videos won’t be released for a little while.

The main difference between FCPX 10.1 and previous versions is how media is managed. The 10.1 videos go over how media is managed in the new versions. Most of the information that isn’t covered in the 10.1.x videos has already been covered in the 10.0.3 videos, making it redundant to create additional 10.1 videos that already cover topics that are discussed in the 10.0.3 videos. So if you just watch the 10.0.3 videos you will get all the information you need to edit in 10.1.x until new videos are released.

    Heya Nathan,

Thanks for your concern. I understand how annoying it can be to have a popup constantly appear when you’re trying to peacefully browse through a website. I have addressed your concern and removed the popup from the majority of the site, although a popup may still appear when certain video tutorials have finished playing. I hope that helps increase the viewing pleasure of the website for you and others.
