    Heya Benjamin,

Thanks for visiting the forum! For others that may be reading this topic Benjamin is referring to the tutorial on how to receive a text message when FCPX finishes exporting.

It seems as though you’re doing everything correctly. I am thinking it’s a problem with the recent OS version because even after exporting I can not “Open With” the FCXP-Text.app although I could do it in earlier versions.

I seen that you’re an Apple Technical Coordinator so I figure you know what you’re doing per the instructions and it appears as though you’re saving the script as an Application from AppleScript.

I just tried to get it to work in FCPX 10.1.2 and I couldn’t get it to work either, although it worked in previous versions. If I double click the FCPX-Text.app application or right-click the app and “open” it then it will send a message, so opening the app will send the message. It seems as though the current issue is that OSX is not allowing a Quicktime movie file to “Open With” the AppleScript application.

I thought perhaps it’s because the FCPX-Text.app application is not a “recommended” app… for instance if you right-click a shared Quicktime movie file and try to “Open With” the FCPX-Text.app application then it initially won’t allow you to select it (the app is greyed out) because it’s not a recommended app. You’d have to choose to enable all applications in order to choose to open a Quicktime movie with the AppleScript application that was created. Even when you do that it still doesn’t “open” the app (and send a text message). So I thought it might be a “recommended” app issue with the most recent OSX version. So then I tried to “Open With” Motion, which is greyed out and not a “recommended” app. When I tried that it at least attempted to open Motion so I don’t think it’s an issue with the app being a “recommended” app or not. Honestly… I do not know WTF the problem is now.

I don’t think it’s a FCPX issue though. I think it’s a recent OSX issue. I’ll be investigating the issue further on my backup machines that have previous versions of FCPX and OSX so that I can try to pinpoint what software update is causing the problem.

If you hear of anything else regarding the issue please keep me updated through this forum topic.

UPDATE: I discovered a workaround that seems to work for the issue. Open Automator.app and create an application. Add the Utilities action named “Launch Application” to your untitled Automator application. From the “Launch Application” action settings select the FCPX-Text.app application and then save the Automator application and name it something like FCPX-Text-Workaround.app or something. Then from the FCPX Share settings choose to “Open With” FCPX-Text-Workaround.app, which will then open FCPX-Text.app and send the text message.

    Hope that helps!

    Heya Nathan,

Thanks for your order yesterday. It appears there is an issue with PayPal IPN updating order status. You order has now been marked as completed and you should be able to access material that is available. Additional videos will appear in your order history once they become available.

    Heya guys!

Some more updates have been added to the forum today. Now you can do the following:

    • See whether a topic contains new unread posts or not.
    • Ignore users so you can hide posts from certain users.
    • Rate posts with a thumbs up or a thumbs down and see the post rating of users.

There’s also more form fields in your profile where you can add your location and computer setup. If others know what system you’re running on it will help people get more accurate solutions for their unique computer setup so it’s encouraged that you list your hardware and software setup in your profile.

Heya sure thang! I really wanted this to work so I’m glad I found a workaround too.

It’s funny because I actually wrote about that workaround in the last paragraph of the tutorial. I just re-read the original tutorial and figured out the workaround by reading the last paragraph that describes using Automator to trigger AppleScripts.

I’ll update the original tutorial article to include the Automator workaround with screenshots so that people using newer versions of OSX and FCPX will not experience the same issue that you did.

    Heya Greg,

Yeah I think what happened is that when you went through the checkout process you actually created a new account on the checkout page. There’s an area on the checkout page to enter a username, which will create a new account (see screenshot below). A password is automatically generated for you when you enter a username on the checkout page and that generated password is supposed to be emailed to you. Perhaps it was sent to your spam folder?

I’m thinking you were able to access downloads from the order history because you were still logged in to the session for the new account you created during your order. Then you closed your browser or otherwise killed the session and later on you logged in with Facebook to post on the forum and lost your session that had your order stored on it so you couldn’t access the quiz. I went through the system and attributed your order to your Facebook account and deleted the other erroneous account that was inadvertently created so you should be able to access the FCPX Quiz from your Facebook account now by visiting the FCPX Quiz page.

    Heya Greg,

Our records show you have two accounts registered in our system. Make sure you’re logged in to the account that has the FCPX Training purchased. You can also take the limited quiz for free from the link provided.

    Heya Greg,

I’m not sure what happened, but for some reason you had two orders for the FCPX Training in our system. One was a completed order and one was a pending order. The pending order must of created a conflict with the system when verifying your purchase, which resulted in denying you access to the FCPX Quiz. I deleted the pending order so you should be able to access the full FCPX Quiz now.

I’m working on adding the FCPX Quiz “Report Cards”. Report cards should start appearing on the quiz page once I have completed their development.

    Heya Greg,

I don’t have a complete synopsis for the videos yet. I’m kind of creating them as I go. I had to take a break earlier this year because of an illness but I am currently in relapse and I’ve been working hard the past few months developing the new version of this website that has just launched.

This website is much more scalable now in terms of adding restricted content for verified paid users. In the previous version of this website there was a lot of coding involved every time a new video restricted was released. Add that on top of producing the videos and it’s a lot of time and effort involved. Those setbacks along with my illness prevented me from releasing more training videos earlier this year. Now that I am well I was able to develop a more robust code that makes it much easier for me to click a button and restrict the content of a page for a person that has purchased an item in the store, such as the FCPX Training. I still have a little bit of coding to do and then I’ll start making more videos and putting them into the catalog. At this time I am hoping that FCPX 10.1.2 is released so that any new videos I make will cover the latest version. I have a feeling that FCPX 10.1.2 will be released soon. The new videos I release will cover everything from the basics up to more advanced techniques, including multicam editing.

It helps to watch the older videos that cover 10.0.3, even to get up to speed on 10.1. Some of the main differences between 10.1 and older versions is how media is managed. The current videos I have that cover 10.1 pretty much cover everything that’s new in 10.1 and the older videos pretty much cover the rest of what you can do.

I’ll most likely post an archive of Larry Jordan’s training video on the same page that the live video is on right now. I’ll just update the page with an archive of his video (if Larry Jordan makes an archive of his video available for me to post).

I’m glad we connected too, Greg. I hope to see you post some other topics in the forum and perhaps upload an avatar. Make sure to come back and let me know when you become certified. See you soon and good luck on your exam!

    Heya Greg,

Thanks for your reply! Yeah anyone can go to an AATC and take a pro exam without having to take the class. Find out where your nearest AATC is and go in and take the exam. Make sure to let me know when you become an Apple Certified Pro!

I have a few videos on YouTube and on this website. I am releasing additional FCPX 10.1.1 training videos available via purchase which includes 10.0.3 training and additional 10.1.1 training videos when they become available. The purchase also includes the FCPX 10.1 quiz (available now) and the quiz report cards.

I also plan on hosting a live Q&A every month that will be available to customers that have purchased the FCPX Training on this website.
